Sphagnum (sect. Buchanania) leucobryoides sect. et sp. nov. from Tasmania

Sphagnum (sect. Buchanania) leucobryoides, sect. et sp. nov. is described from Tasmania. The present species has many remarkable characters, including oblongellipsoidal antheridia which are borne laterally on the stem and just below the perichaetium, stems with few branches, large imbricate stem leaves, hyaline cells located on the abaxial side of chlorophyll cells of the leaves, and pore-like structures of leaf cells of the short branches.
