The article is devoted to the «Narration about two elders». The authors examine the history of the circulation of this pamphlet in Russia in the redactions of the years 1694 and 1695. The article deals with the contents of the «Narration» and the reasons of the popularity of this text among Russian readers. The authors conclude that during the 2nd half of the 17th and the first half of the 18 th centuries the attention to the text was gradually increasing, the old believers showing a special interest in it. They considered the «Narration about two elders» as a real prophecy about the imminent end of the world. Both then and during the «European» period of its existence in Russia the work had a flavour of «opposition». In other circles of society it could be treated as a piece of amusement reading.
