The work is devoted to one of poorly explored pages of the Troubled Times in the Russian North. The article views the destiny of a small Russian town, which appeared to be in the centre of events connected to Novgorod struggle against the Tushino Thief, and Pskov struggle against Novgorod and the Swedish interventionists. The author examines the confusing chronology of events during Troubled Times in Porhov area in detail. The author also investigates the events of 1613 connected to the revolt in Porhov against Swedes, finds out its reasons. After a time, by 1617, the fortress had been returned by the Swedes to the Russian state on conditions of Stolbovsky Peace, so, Porhov's destiny at those times is also under consideration.
