- Аннотация:
Outlines the Catholic Church's and Pope Pius XII's stand against the abuses and oppressions of the dictatorial regimes of Hitler and Mussolini, based on new testimonies and documents on relations between the Vatican and Germany during the war. Ch. 1 (pp. 9-40), "Hitler, " discusses Nazi ideology, stating that it was based on the ideas of Aryan superiority and the belief that it was necessary to exterminate the Jews. Stresses the contributions of Rosenberg and Streicher to Nazi antisemitic propaganda. Ch. 6 (pp. 136-162), "Le persecuzioni naziste, " deals with the deportation of the Jews and the Catholic Church's efforts to help Jews emigrate or to give them shelter when possible. States that the Pope was outraged by the Holocaust but that he did not take a public stand for fear of endangering lives due to Nazi retaliations.
