Опера Катерино Кавоса "Иван Сусанин"

The opera by С.A. Cavos on A. Shakhovskoy’s libretto «Ivan Susanin» (1815) was the first address in the Russian theater to the theme of the feat of the famous national hero. In this article, an attempt is made to present a complete review of the literary and musical texts of «Ivan Susanin». The following aspects are considered: the history of the composition, the libretto and its interaction with opera music, its genre features, dramaturgy and compositional features. Particular attention is paid to the musical characteristics of the characters and the use of the leitmotif complex.
