The article discusses the originality of narrative experiments of eighteenth-century French writer Pierre Carle de Chamblain de Marivaux in genre poetics of the novel. It reviews the idea of the absence of innovative genre searches in this era and the steady assessment of Marivaux’s early novels as continuing the tradition of the previous century. The analysis of the novel ‘La Voiture embourbée’ (1713-1714) enables fi nding a new interaction of the implicit author with readers in the novel, Marivaux installation on an artistic experiment, the game of established motives and narrative clichés, which in the end turns out to be unexpectedly close not only to the novelist’s contemporaries, but also to a later generation of writers.
