For the first time the complete checklist of Anseriformes of the world has been compiled in Russian. It contains 3 families, 52 genera, and 176 species, including subrecent forms that have been extinct since 1500. The recommended taxonomic system is supported by the results of the latest revisions of this group, and in a number of cases different viewpoints are put forward. Russian names of families, genera and species are supplemented with synonyms and brief comments for the higher taxa enlightening the differences in some taxonomists’ viewpoints. Every taxon of the lower level is provided with its author’s name and the year of description. For the majority of genera and species, the scientific synonyms still in use are given. This allows distinguishing groups of the ‘subgenus-superspecies’ range. Breeding ranges of all species and subspecies as well as the distribution status of Anseriformes of Russian avifauna are described in brief.
