- Аннотация:
Johann Sebastian Bach, perhaps more than any other composer in the history of Western music, was acutely aware of the legacy he had received from earlier composers. Although Bach did not travel much beyond his homeland, he collected, studied, and transcribed the music of an international array of composers. In trac358 ing the influences upon Bach's music, scholars have focused mainly on composers who were either Bach's contemporaries or members of the immediately preceding generation. In addition, much lip service has been given to the inspiration Bach drew from one composer born more than a century earlier, Girolamo Frescobaldi. Yet scholars have heretofore been able to identify few concrete instances in which a piece by Bach carries the unequivocal stamp of Frescobaldi's influence, beyond merely displaying features that were common coin during the early years of the seventeenth century.'
